Summer School 2017

Credit: high school credit awarded upon successful completion of courses

Competency recovery will occur through E2020, which is an online program.  Courses will be customized according to the specific needs of individual students so as to allow each student to demonstrate competencies not yet met from their school year coursework.  Students must pass at least 50% of the learning targets and complete the course in order to be eligible for credit recovery.

Students must be completed with coursework by Friday, August 18 to have their schedules adjusted for the school year.  Students who have not completed competency recovery for prerequisite courses will not move on to the next course.

Registration:

Students will be able to register online for competency recovery starting Monday, June 19th.  Registration may also be completed via telephone or in person at the high school (M-Th 8-2).  Once students have registered and a course is created to meet the students needs, students can pretest and begin to work independently on their competency recovery. Students must complete pretesting and module (unit) tests in the lab at John Stark.  Students may only be enrolled in two courses at the same time.

Support and computers are available for students from 8am-2pm, Tuesday through Thursday starting Wednesday, July 5 and ending Thursday, August 10.

Drop-In Tutoring

Dates: July 5 – August 11 (Tuesday-Thursday each week)
Time: 9am-12pm
Cost: None

Drop-in Tutoring is available for students from 9am-12pm as follows:

  • Science:  7/5, 7/6, 7/10, 7/12, 7/17, 7/19
  • Math: 7/25, 7/27, 8/1, 8/3, 8/8, 8/10
  • English: 7/18, 7/19, 7/20, 7/25, 7/26 7/27

Project Remediation

Dates: 7/5, 7/6, 7/11, 7/12, 7/13
Time: 9am-12pm
Cost: None
Credit: high school credit awarded upon successful completion of courses


This on-campus course will allow students to re-mediate papers, speeches, and projects from their English and social studies courses.  This course will run 3 hours/day, for three days (Tuesday July 5 to Thursday, July 9).  Attendance is mandatory for enrollees and students are expected to arrive on time for class each day.

Jump Start Program - for ninth- and tenth-graders

Dates: July 5 – July 27 (Tuesday - Thursday each week)
Time: Course runs from 8:00am – 12:00am each day
Cost: None
Credit: 1/4 high school credit awarded upon successful completion of competencies

The Summer Jump Start Program is a program for any 9th or 10th grader. The general objectives of the program include:

  • developing the academic, civic, and social competencies required of high school students;
  • developing tools for success including the incorporation of study strategies, test-taking strategies, literacy skills, numeracy skills, and positive habits of work;
  • understanding the structure and substance of the high school’s educational program;
  • fostering a positive entry into the culture and climate of John Stark;
  • providing students with an opportunity to earn 1/4 high school credit;
  • providing an opportunity for early access to the next year's curriculum and course content;
  • developing students ability to use technology to support learning.


All students are encouraged to participate --- from the challenged learner to the advanced learner.  

Students will be able to register online for Jump Start starting Friday May 6th.  Registration may also be completed via telephone or completed in person at the high school.
